HYDERABAD – RECENT FLOODING – ENCROACHMENT OF LAKES, NALA, RAJA KALVE AND ILLEGAL AND UNAUTHORISED CONSTRUCTIONS – AFTER CHENNAI AND BANGALORE, IT IS THE TURN OF ANOTHER SOUTH INDIAN CITY – HYD

Hyderbad rains and a massive anti-encroachment drive in the city.

Chief Minister has stated that there are over 28000 illegal structures in HYDERABAD.

(GHMC) has started a massive anti-encroachment drive in the city. In past two days the authority demolished over 250 illegal structures and encroachments.

The corporation demolished 26 structures today encroaching lake beds and storm water drainage. But this time the sufferers are those who as per the municipal corporation had built houses on encroached areas.

Under the strong instructions from the Chief Minister Sri.Chandrashekar Rao, A team consisting of police personal, civil and municipal coporation officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is taking up this drive in 28 circles under jurisdiction of the corporation and structures around Ameerpet, Nizampet, Malkajgiri, Indira Nagar-Gacchobowli and Banjara Hills will be demolished.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the government is in no mood to spare even the high and mighty while hitting on the poor, he said, “We are ready to provide two bedroom houses to the poor who will lose their shelters during this drive but now we need support from the political parties also to implement it completely.”

On Tuesday, the team demolished structures in Ameerpet, Nizampet, Malkajgiri, Chandnagar, Kukatpally, Indira Nagar-Gacchobowli, Nallakunta and posh Banjara Hills area. Apart from the illegal structures, they also raised down extra floors and other constructions standing without proper permission.

In the first phase of the drive, the real sufferers are mostly the lower middle class who managed to build small homes. They questioned the government’s move and the GHMC officials saying why were they sleeping till now when the structures came up under their nose.

Although the move is being appreciated but questions are also being raised about who permitted these structures to be built in the first place and would the guilty be punished.
