ARKAVATHY RIVER CATCHMENT AREA (TG HALLY NOTIFICATION) WITHDRAWAL BY GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA STAYED BY THE HIGH COURT OF KARNATAKA

TG Halli Catchment Area Notification of 2003 which was blocked by the vested interests with the connivance of the politicians – BLOCKAGE AND BLOCKADE – stayed by high court

The Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed a notification issued by the State Government in July this year withdrawing the 2003 notification by which the catchment areas of Tippagondanahally reservoir was classified into several zones and restrictions had been imposed on developmental activities in these zones.

A single judge bench had referred the matter to the Division Bench while treating the government’s action of withdrawing the 2003 notification as a decision impacting larger public interest with the reservoir being one of the main sources of drinking water to Bangalore city.

The government had withdrawn the 2003 notification after many persons had questioned the notice issued by various authorities for demolishing structures put up in violation of zonal restrictions in the protected zones of catchment area.
