ENCROACHMENT OF RAJA KALUVE NEAR ARKERE LAKE AND FLOODING

ENCROACHMENT OF RAJA KALUVE AND ITS AFTER EFFECTS AT ARKERE, BANNERGATTA ROAD

The recent rain brought with it the misery of overflowing stench from arkere lake, bannergatta road for more than 250 houses close to Arkere lake and surrounding areas of Shantiniketan, R.R. Layout, Vysya Bank Colony, Harali Sringeri Nagar and Saraswatipuram.

According to BBMP & BDA officials, a raja kaluve that must be around 8 meters wide or 30 feet wide has narrowed down to 2.5 meter  wide passed through this locality and bannergatta road. The illegal encroachment/enroachers (are) is the culprit behind the flooding of these areas.

The BBMP must restore the actual size of the raja kaluve to 8 meters to 10 meters (or a minimum 30 feet)all along to prevent such hazards during rainy season.

BDA Commissioner T. Sham Bhat attributed the flooding to the narrowed raja kaluve. “The problem was caused because the raja kaluve was narrowed down from 8 m to 2 m. As a result, the water overflowed from the drain and entered residential areas,” he said.
