SMT. SREERAMAMURTHY JANAKI, THE 74 YEAR OLD, VETERAN PLAYBACK SINGER REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE PADMA BUSHAN AWARD ON THE EVE OF 64TH REPUBLIC DAY, CONFERRED TO HER, CITING DISCRIMINATION OF CONFERMENT OF AWARDS TO SOUTHERN ARTISTS.

One response to “S.JANAKI REFUSES TO ACCEPT THE PADMA BUSHAN AWARD”

  1. it is rather deplorable on the part of this noted play back singer to refuse the prestigious padma bhushan award.Even susheela who is unmatchable for her melody and singing abilities could get this honour very recently. Even the great Bapu is consoled with mere padmasri. The conferment of padma bhushan is infact a higher honour for a singer of Janaki’s stature.I am expressing this view with utmost respect for her. She should have shown a sort of humility rather than arrogance at the gesture of the union government.By refusing it she did not do any favour to the south indian art and rather contributed for the loss of number of awards this area is conferred with.
